Supreme Steel, is currently looking for a motivated and highly efficient individual to join our drafting team in the position of Drafting Coordinator, at either our Acheson or Delta location. The successful candidate’s educational requirements may vary and include a Design/Drafting Certificate or Diploma. Candidates should demonstrate strong current knowledge of standards, processes, procedures, and weld symbols.
This individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Adhering to project schedules and budgets
- Managing models, drawings and other project correspondence for a given project.
- Working with a project team (Project Managers, Engineers, Shop and Field staff) to resolve potential shop, fabrication and field fitting issues identified at the detailing stage to ensure the success of a project.
- Interpreting and incorporating approval comments, contract changes and other revisions into 3D models and drawings.
- Reviewing and analyzing specifications and related project data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
- Determining when information is missing or unclear on construction drawings or specifications and creating Requests for Information (RFI’s) to be sent to vendors to obtain missing information or clarify information that is unclear.
- Attend project meetings and advise on current progress on assigned tasks and identify any concerns.
- Review shop drawings received from sublet drafting firms for completeness prior to shop issue. Notify subcontractors of inconsistencies and follow-up.
Having proven work experience in a Drafting Coordinator role, working in the steel or construction industry, the successful candidate will also possess the following attributes:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the steel detailing industry
- Able to perform all tasks of a Structural Steel Detailer or Checker.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills using effective time management and able to multi-task
- Good attitude, can work with others in a fast-paced team environment
- Working knowledge of Tekla Structures, AutoCAD and Procore
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and applicable Building Codes.
