Structural Design Engineer

Supreme Steel LP is currently seeking a self-motivated, quality focused and highly efficient individual to join our Engineering team in the position of Structural Design Engineer at our office in Acheson, AB.  This position will be responsible for managing and providing steel connection design services for a variety structural steel projects and providing engineering support to our fabrication and construction teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical knowledge in structural steel building and connection design.
  • Work closely with Director of Technical Services and Engineering Lead to lead the daily operations of steel connection design projects.
  • Work daily with Drafting, Engineering and Project Managers to provide timely and efficient connection design solutions on a wide variety of steel connection projects.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality control procedures on all work leaving Supreme Steel’s office.
  • Manage demanding project schedules.
  • Work with and manage fellow engineers with the ability to collaborate daily in achieving project goals and requirements.
  • Build and maintain client relationships.
  • Providing technical support for corrections of shop or field non-conformities.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with technical project requirements, specifications and governing codes and standards.
  • Meet with stakeholders, assisting production in interpreting technical project requirements.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural or Architectural Engineering
  • P.Eng. designation and eligibility for registration in western Canada an asset
  • Minimum of 2 years of steel connection design experience in structural steel industry
  • Demonstrate knowledge of steel, project and design constraints, and design to best fit the purpose or service intended and address interdisciplinary impacts.
  • Excellent communication skills, time managements and organization skills
  • Demonstrate knowledge of regulations, codes, standards and safety. This includes local engineering procedures and practices as applicable.
  • Strong understanding of the concept of quality control during design and construction including independent design check and independent reviews of design, field checks and reviews.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office software
  • Knowledge of AutoCad and/or Tekla an asset
  • Ability to travel and work with staff located remotely
