Supreme Steel LP is currently seeking a self-motivated, quality focused and highly efficient individual to join our Engineering team in the position of Senior Structural Engineer at our office in Acheson, AB. The Structural Engineer is responsible for combining structural analysis/design with experience and knowledge to create designs that meet Structural Codes/Standards and project requirements. Acting as a technical resource throughout the various stages of the design and sale process, from submission to project support the Structural Engineer is accountable for producing designs and calculations for a variety of structural steel projects.
Responsibilities:
- Technical leadership in structural steel building and connection design
- Producing designs and calculations and design assist for a variety of structural steel projects
- Producing connection design layouts, calculations and details
- Participation in Integrated Design Process for development of sole-sourced opportunities
- Proficiency in Construction Engineering temporary works design
- Providing technical recommendations for corrections of shop or field non-conformities.
- Structural modelling, analysis and design
- Meeting with stakeholders; assisting production in interpreting technical project requirements
- Providing technical recommendations for correction of non-conformities
- Ensuring work is performed in accordance with technical project requirements, specifications and governing codes and standards.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil (with a Structural specialization) or Structural Engineering
- P.Eng. designation and eligibility for registration in western Canada
- Preference would be given to a candidate with over 10 years of structural steel design experience, combined with experience in the construction and/or manufacturing industry
- Welding Engineer designation with accreditation from CWB is an asset
- Demonstrate knowledge of steel, project and design constraints, and design to best fit the purpose or service intended and address interdisciplinary impacts.
- Experience managing teams, using effective leadership styles and practices
- Demonstrate knowledge of regulations, codes, standards and safety. This includes local engineering procedures and practices as applicable.
- Capable of creating erection scheme layouts and installation procedures
- Strong understanding of the concept of quality control during design and construction including independent design check and independent reviews of design, field checks and reviews.
- Detailed knowledge with Canadian and US Codes, such as CSA S16, S6, W59, W47.1, AISC, AWS D1.1 & AWS D1.5
- Well-founded in the FEM and the use of commercial structural analysis software
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office software
- Knowledge of AutoCad and/or Tekla
- Driven to introduce continuous improvements, allowing higher goals to be set.
- Presents information, analysis, ideas, and positions verbally and in writing in a clear and convincing manner.
- Ability to travel and work with staff located remotely
